About Betsy

Hi There!
I’m Betsy Templeton, Health and Nutrition Coach, Yoga Teacher, and founder of Golden Beet Wellness.

I don’t know about you, but I never get a true sense of a person from their “About Me” page. So I have compiled a list of questions one might ask in order to get a sincere picture of who I am and how I work.

Defining moments?
Giving birth 34 years ago … naturally of course!
Falling in love at first sight. No kidding! It can happen, and, yes we are still together very much in love after 30 years.

Favorite food?

Greatest accomplishments?
My amazing daughter and happy marriage are tops of course BUT I WENT ROGUE IN MY 50s AND I DID THIS:

  • I said good bye to a 20+ year career that did not feed my soul.
  • I completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification.
  • I safely and naturally got myself through menopause. WHEW!
  • I enrolled at  the Institute For Integrative Nutrition and became certified as a Health Coach.
  • I founded Golden Beet Wellness, a place for information and inspiration.
  • I began to teach yoga.
  • I developed a meditation practice.

Most grateful for?
My relationships and my health. They are my wealth.

Largest hurdle?
Struggling for years with body image issues, disordered eating, and the feelings of low self esteem that follow.

Hidden talent?
I work from home and eat lunch there most days. I open the fridge and create the most delicious combinations! It usually takes 10 minutes max. It’s like my own private “Chopped” episode.

Smoothies or Juice?
I’m a smoothie girl most days.

Your friends describe you as…?
I polled my BFFs and they said this:
– off the cuff funny
– a bright light
– old school grace and charm
– kind, gentle, and generous
– great cook
– smart and insightful
– compassionate
– loyal, supportive, and always available
(But let’s face it: they had to be nice.)

Favorite quote?
“Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.” ~ African Proverb

Why you love your job?
When I am coaching clients one on one, instructing a cooking class, leading a group workshop, or teaching yoga, I am connecting with people in a meaningful way. My intention is to empower and inspire people to take charge of their health. There is so much to sort out: nutritional theories are ever changing, bad habits are hard to break, cooking isn’t fun for everyone, and exercise … who has time for that? Here is where I come in. I am a resourceful adviser. I motivate my clients to make small changes that over time have a huge impact on their health and happiness. I ask tough questions, we dig deep, we have fun, things begin to shift…. that is what I love to do.

Biggest fear?
Honestly, I have so much love in my life. If I ever found myself truly alone, could I stand on my own two feet?

Perfect Sunday afternoon?
Leisurely Sunday mornings roll right into afternoons at our house. After a big breakfast, lots of coffee, various newspapers spread about; it’s time for a hike. My husband and I like to walk our pup, Marcello, along the lovely Eno River. We have been reviving our spirits this way for decades with various dogs, all four seasons, rain and  shine. #sundayfunday

Health topic on your mind these days?
Anti-inflammatory foods and their benefits.
This is a hot topic. It seems clear that constant or out-of-control inflammation in the body leads to ill health. Eating to avoid inflammation promotes better health and may ward off disease. I have been incorporating more anti-inflammatory foods into my diet with great success: less pain, swelling, and stiffness. Better digestion too.
Yes, I am a believer!
